THE MUSEUM OF THE SHENANDOAH VALLEY

Winchester, Virginia

The 50,000 SF Museum, designed by the internationally renowned architectural firm of Michael Graves and Associates, is a new regional history museum dedicated to interpreting the art, history and culture of the Shenandoah Valley. The new Museum anchors a regional history museum complex that includes the Glen Burnie Historic House and six acres of spectacular gardens.

Diorama vignettes, colorful graphics and high-tech multi-media in The Shenandoah Valley Gallery provide a comprehensive look at how people settled in the Valley; were sustained by its bounty; and eventually merged cultures. The Julian Wood Glass Jr. Gallery, a rich display of the benefactor’s 18th- and 19th-century European Collection, is a fascinating counterpoint to The Decorative Arts Galleries where a rotating collection of objects found in early Valley homes is on display. The R. Lee Taylor Miniatures Gallery, a phenomenal collection of miniature houses, includes the work of seventy artists, many who are giants of the diminutive world in miniatures. For more information, visit www.shenandoahmuseum.org.
