Luck Companies

Manakin‐Sabot, Virginia

Under the leadership of three generations of the Luck family, Luck Stone is now one of the largest private, family‐owned and operated aggregates suppliers in the U.S. with approximately 800 associates. In 2008 Luck Stone transformed its current corporate headquarters by adding a 60,000 SF expansion and renovating its existing 25,000 SF building. Designed by SMBW Architects, the building is not only an open and collaborative workspace for Luck's associates but a visible symbol of the company's “values-based” mission of providing innovative products and services that enhance the lives of its customers, associates, and community. 1717 was pleased to be selected to create the corporate exhibits and wayfinding signage for this exciting project. A primary site sign, vehicular and pedestrian directional signs, ADA compliant interior signs, and a series of highly‐detailed conference room and coffee bar signs were also designed for the project. The exhibit gallery located adjacent to the lobby is modeled after the stepped form of a tradition stone quarry. A monumental forty‐foot‐long “values” mural is executed in contrasting cherry veneers in the adjacent corridor. Backlit graphics and touchscreen interactives provide an interpretive introduction to Luck Stone's four major business divisions.
